As a foreign student coming to study in China for college, what things do I need to be aware of? And what things do I need to bring with me from my home country?

I am here to mention some points that may “kill”you.


1.public safety is never a issue in China, especially in big cities it is extremely safe compared to other large cities in the U.S or Europe. But still be aware of theft and scam during your first journey from airport to you school dorm. Lost your passport and smart phone may kill you in the country.


2. Food allergy. Most of foreigners admit that Chinese food is great, about the taste. some times you never know what's inside the dish. In Chinese restaurant The manu never tell you about the ingredients. Please ask as much as possible for what is really inside. The interesting thing is I've been living in china for 25years and I have no allergy to any kind of food. But since I moved to the US and stayed for 5 years. I started having allergy reaction. Be aware of gluten, peanut butter those kind of allergy ingredient. Those can kill you.


3.Internet. After your airplane landed china. Say good to internet freedom. Be prepare with your VPN service if you wanna stay connect to Facebook and say hello to your friends. Google service is also blocked. before come to china, install wechat on your smartphone is a good move. You may search useful information from wechat search and find help from local authority.


No connection to google is definitely killing you.

The qualities of Chinese universities varies greatly, and i think you should check which university you would like to attend. For example, one of my friend in Jiaotong University says that she need to do a lot of research and homework in her spare time, and the workload is almost as heavy as those US top universities.
